Shopify store design for small brands
Shopify makes it easy to open a store. Making one that people trust and buy from on a phone takes more care: the right theme, product pages that answer questions, and only the apps you really need.
Shopify work I do, and what I don't
"Shopify developer" covers very different jobs. To be clear about where I fit:
What I do
- New store setup and theme design
- Redesigning product, collection and home pages
- Product data structure, variants and collections
- Payments, shipping, taxes and policies configured with you
- Google & YouTube and Meta sales channels connected
- Speed clean-up: apps, images and scripts
Better for a specialist
- Building custom public Shopify apps
- Headless storefronts with separate front-end frameworks
- Complex ERP or warehouse integrations
- Enterprise-scale Shopify Plus migrations
How I set up a Shopify store
Theme choice
A well-supported theme that fits your product type, customized to your brand rather than fighting it.
Product pages
Clear photos, sizing or specs, delivery and returns near the button, and FAQs that stop the "quick question" emails.
App diet
Each app adds scripts and monthly fees. I start with built-in features and add apps only for clear needs.
Launch checks
Test orders, emails, mobile checkout, redirects from any old store, and analytics before opening the doors.
Connected from day one
A store nobody finds doesn't sell. During setup I connect the channels Shopify supports, so marketing can start right after launch.
| Channel | What it's for |
|---|---|
| Google & YouTube sales channel | Syncs products to Google Merchant Center for free listings and Shopping ads (Shopify help) |
| Facebook & Instagram channel | Product catalog for shops and catalog ads |
| Email and SMS sign-up | Welcome offer and abandoned cart reminders for people who opt in |
| Analytics | Shopify reports plus Google Analytics so you see which channels sell |
Ongoing growth after launch is covered by Ecommerce & Shopify marketing.
Signs your store needs a redesign
- Lots of visits, few add-to-cartsUsually a product page problem: unclear price, weak photos or missing information.
- Add-to-carts but few ordersOften shipping costs revealed too late, or a slow, cluttered mobile checkout path.
- Slow on phonesOld apps that were uninstalled can leave code behind; I check the theme for leftovers.
- You can't update it yourselfHeavily customized code no one documented. I rebuild in a way you can manage.
What a Shopify product page needs to sell
The product page is where most Shopify stores win or lose the sale. This is the checklist I design against.
Above the fold
- Product name and price, including any sale price
- Clear photos on a consistent background, plus one in use
- Variant selector that shows availability
- Add to cart and an express checkout option where available
Below the button
- Shipping times and costs, returns policy in plain words
- Size guide, materials, dimensions or ingredients
- Real reviews once you have them (never invented)
- Related products that make sense together
I also write product titles and descriptions to suit both shoppers and Google Shopping: what it is, key attribute, brand, and size or color, in a consistent order. That consistency makes your Merchant Center feed cleaner and your collection pages easier to scan.
Shopify store design questions
How much does Shopify store design cost?
It depends on the number of products, the theme work and any migrations. I give a fixed quote after a free audit. Shopify's own plan, theme and app fees are paid by you directly to Shopify and app developers.
Do I need a Shopify developer or a designer?
Most small stores need a designer who knows Shopify well: theme customization, product structure and setup. You need a developer for custom apps or complex integrations.
Can you move my store from WooCommerce or another platform?
Yes. I plan product and customer data transfer and redirect old URLs so search traffic isn't lost, then test before switching the domain.
Who owns the Shopify store?
You do. The store is created under your Shopify account, and I work as a staff or collaborator account that you can remove at any time.
Will you help with marketing after launch?
Yes, if you want. Store SEO, Google Shopping, Meta catalog ads and email flows are part of ecommerce marketing, quoted after the audit.
